Renata isn’t sure if she is warm or cool. . .she can wear both. She is drawn
to vivid, bright shades. What coloring is she?

Renata is one of the coloring types that really benefits from the expanded
12-palette scheme that takes into account CLARITY or intensity. She is
very clear; that is her dominant characteristic. But she is also quite neutral
(imagine medium brown hair & no lip color), however, she is slightly on the
warm side of the scale which makes her a clear spring. So her colors include
some cross-over colors from the clear winter palette which includes
bright pink. She’ll be happy to hear that because
she indicated she likes to wear that color ;~)
Thank you for your photo submission, Cheri. ![]()
The first thing I’m looking for is dominant characteristic. Sometimes I work backwards and eliminate possibilites. I know that you are NOT:
LIGHT, CLEAR, COOL, OR SOFT, which leaves us with DEEP or WARM. You indicated you don’t know if you are warm or cool (you are definitely on the warm side), but that gives a clue that your main color characteristic probably isn’t WARM (you appear pretty warm in the photo, but photos do add some artificial warmth so I’m thinking your hair isn’t quite as red as it appears). You can tell from the color dots I added to your photo that deep winter colors don’t work for you. So the palettes we have left are deep and warm autumn. The warm autumn dots look good, but based on your input I think you are probably a deep autumn, particularly if your eye color is fairly deep (it’s tough to tell from the photo) and your hair isn’t as warm/red as it appears. If you photo is accurately representing your coloring, then consider warm autumn.
I hope this helps — Leslie

Someone asked me recently about the coloring of Keira Knightley:

She is very muted and soft. That is what I notice the most about
her coloring. So her dominant characteristic is SOFT, and she
is way over on the muted end of the of the clear –> muted scale.
With respect to hue, she is not obviously warm nor cool. In this
photo, she is wearing clothing and makeup that is slightly cool,
and to me it doesn’t do much for her coloring because she is
slightly on the warm side of the warm –> cool (hue) scale.
Moving along to the last characteristic of color (depth), she is
neither light nor deep. She has light hair, but deeper value in
her eye color, which balances out to medium overall depth.
Taking into consideration all three characteristics of color
(intensity, hue, and depth), she must be a soft autumn: very soft,
neutral (but slightly warm) hue, and medium depth.
Here’s another photo of her with soft autumn-type “clothing”. It’s
the best I could do. . .most photos have her in black or white clothing,
so finding any color on her was challenging.

Elizabeth can’t determine if she is warm or cool, but she thinks she could be a ‘deep’.

She is correct in that she is a ‘deep’. The question is: deep winter or deep autumn? Her eye color looks almost gold, which would indicate warmth. She has some yellow undertones in her skin. Overall, she will be flattered more by the warmer palette of deep autumn than the cooler colors of deep winter.
Thanks, Elizabeth. Hope this helps.
